Personal protective equipment
Due to the nature of construction work and the number of different hazards that employees are exposed to in our various types of operations, it is necessary for Maple Leaf Construction to:
- provide the appropriate protective equipment to employees,
- instruct them in the proper use and care of such equipment, and
- enforce compliance with this policy.
The intent of Personal Protective Equipment (P.P.E.) at all times is the prevention of injury.
P.P.E. falls into two categories:
- Safety equipment worn at all times by employees (e.g. hard hats, safety footwear, safety glasses), and
- Protective equipment used for injury prevention for specific job tasks (e.g. welding helmets with face and eye protection, respiratory equipment when toxic gases or harmful dusts are present, gloves when handling sharp materials).
The following direction is given for all our workplaces:
- Employees must wear the appropriate safety gear as required on all construction sites. (usually hard hats & safety footwear).
- Any special protective equipment required while performing specific job tasks must be worn as well. (e.g. a safety belt or harness for fall protecting, or special dust marks when exposed to that hazard, eye protection when exposed to flying debris, etc.)
- All personal protective equipment except safety boots will be provided by Maple Leaf Construction and meets the standards as set out in the Manitoba Safety & Health Regulations.
- The Foreman will ensure that the proper Personal Protective Equipment is available and in use by workers as required.
- Any protective equipment damaged or of questionable reliability must be returned to the Foreman for repair or replacement.
